Main sail cover advice

Hi there,

I am going to buy a new mainsail cover for the O'day 25 for my father-in-law for father's day. Any advice on what I should look for- closures, etc.? We do not have Lazy Jacks (yet) and that is probably down the road at least a year. Can you modify an exisiting cover for Lazy Jacks?

I looked here in the odayowners.com store, and the cover here looks good for around $180. North Sails Direct will sell me a stock cover for $200.

Any advice is appreciated!

my cover has ropes and hooks along the bottom to keep it on. i find they are a pain as the hooks are always grabbing something when putting it on. my next cover i want a fastener without hooks.

180.00 is about right. you can check on ebay motors under sail cover and get some sellers with new product. I prefer the turn type fasteners or velcro.

I bought my sail cover of Rudy at D & R Marine about three years ago.
http://www.drmarine.com/ It has a zipper on the front, with turn type fasteners which I like, plus a flap on the top with tie cords that tighten around the mast. There are two more tie cords in the aft portion of the cover. The sail cover that I had before that one was made up special with snaps and Velcro by a guy who did automotive upholstery. He screwed up the first time and put the snaps on the side of the cover with the cover facing up. He never gave a thought about rain getting into the cover, but I did. By the time he finished it, that price was up around $300. The cover could have been a shade longer. I'll never go that route again. Rudy's cover went about $200 and it suits me fine. I really don't know what to tell you about modifying it for lazy jacks. I'm the type of guy who covers the mainsail whenever I stop somewhere for even 20 minutes.
