I am in the process of adding slab reefing of the main from the cockpit. Since I have a CDI roller furler for the jib, the jib halyard is unused. For the tack reef point, I tied a 3/8 inch line to the reef hook, up through the reef cringle, then back down to the open sheeve at the mast base that would have been used for the jib halyard, through the line organizer, and then back to the rope clutch next to the main halyard clutch. I'm going to add line organizers and clutches to the port side, and run the topping lift and clew reef line through them via blocks at the base of the mast. Reefing the tack has worked very well, but the sail will not completly come down when I'm done for the day. I have to go to the mast and pull it down for stowing. I tried using a 1/4 inch line as a down haul, tieing it to the uppermost sail guide, and bringing it down to some blocks leading back to the cockpit. When trying to use it, the sail will hang up about 1/3 of the way down. I tried "bumping" it by alternately pulling on the halyard and then the down haul, but it won't go past that one spot. I have to pull the sail dowm from the mast to get it down completely. Anybody have some suggestions? I really don't want to be climbing on the cabin to the mast if I can help it. I'm not 28 anymore!
