Greetings all, I have an early model O'Day Daysailer. The problem I'm having is the main stainless leader, jumps off the pulley at the top of the mast and jams up along the side of the pulley. What am I doing wrong? The line is half rope and half stainless... and where it connects is where the problem starts. There is a new aluminum pulley. What is the correct length for the stainless, and should it actually ride on the pulley? As you may have guessed.. I have never sailed (yet) and my husband is basically brain dead (just kidding), but we were checking the set up this afternoon and there is a problem. Please help. Thank you, Benita bhoman@eznet.net

Halyard

Benita - First, look at the pully. Does it have a V-shape to it or is it more of U? The V indicates a block set up for wire, the U is set up for line. Make sure you have the right parts together. To deal with the problem - keep tension on both ends of the line. This will keep the halyard in the block where it belongs. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Thank you re: Main

Thank you Justin.... Your input helps a great deal since we are dealing with a U-shaped block.

All "Rope" Halyard

If the sheeve is a "U', without a groove...the cheap and easy solition would be to go to an "all rope" Dacron halyard. Any West Marine or sail type marina will have the material in stock. They can also splice the shackle on to the halyard for you (its good experience to learn some splicing and other rope work). Good Luck! Warren
