What do I use on the main hatch slide to prevent that horrible screeching sound everytime I open it? (Pam works only for about a week.)

Hatch noise and drag

Hi. I remember not long ago on this forum where a fellow recommended using a silicon strio that you use around a bathtub to seal off the tub to the wall. He said one side had adhesive and the other the slippery silicon surface. It was available at Lowes. You might look into it or check the archives. Good luck

mold release wax

I use mold release wax on mine. I have to put it on about 2 or 3 times a season, but does the trick.

glide tape

japanese glide tape is a product developed to shim centerboard housings for racing dingies. it is super low friction teflon tape about 1/16 inches thick by 3/4 wide. it is sold through APS (anapolis performance sailing) it is not prohibitively priced, but considerably more than duct tape. it not only reduces friction, but raises the hatch so it clears the obstruction due to wear. place the tape on the sides and underneath the hatch and you will be amazed. i did mine 3 years ago and it has no sign of wear (we live aboard so the hatch is cycled several times a day) i also put some on the bottom of my dingy to reduce friction pulling it up on the dingy dock. before, it took both my wife and i ....now i do it with one hand.
