Does anyone have good pictures of running the main halyard back to the cockpit for single handed sailing on a Hunter 23? Also need a hardware list. I have the block for the bottom of the mast to direct it away from the mast. I have seen some but as a newbee I need all the info I can get. It looks like this is a self directed job. Two marines wanted $500 dollars for the work. I am pretty sure the halyard is long enough to accomplish this with out putting a new halyard up the mast. What concerns me is drilling through the fiberglass and the carpet. Any and all help would be appreciated.

I have pictures of mine in my profile. The equipment list is 1. a base block at the mast. 2. a cheek block on the cabin top. 3. a rope clutch in front of the relocated mast halyard winch. Just use a backing plate or washers for the winch, rope clutch and cheek block, Charles
Thanks a million, the pictures were perfect. Do you need the wench? Can you just use the rope clutch? I heard horror stories about removing the winch. How did you drill through the fiberglass and what did you seal it with? Was the carpet a problem? It looked pretty straight forward, not like horror stories the marina made it out to be.

I used the cheek blocks on the cabin roof as a turning block or deck organizer type block for my halyards aslo..... now a couple months later I realize I should have installed a regular 2 or 3 sheave deck organizers to begin with because now i have a jiffy reef line, my boom vang line, my preventor line and my anchor rode all at the cabin top with both halyards.... I did recently install the organizers, but i could have saved myself some unnecessary holes if i would have preplanned....
Relocating the halyard winch was no big deal. I just wrapped a bag around it to catch anything that popped off as my boat is in a slip. Nothing did. I just drilled thru the cabin top. I drilled it very tight and had to screw my thru bolts in. Sealed it with 3M clear 30 year silicon. Just a couple of drops was enough. The carpet was no problem. I have not used the winch to raise the main but I wanted it right. Who knows what will happen later. Good luck with yours, Charles
