Anybody have a specification for replacing a main halyard on a 1977 25 footer Cherubini? The Hunter shop doesn't give lengths - just options for rope strength etc. Is a wire to rope preferable or should I go with all rope? I only cruise very gently out on the Potomac and Bay.

I have a 25.5....

and I use New England Ropes "Sta-Set", color coded, red, blue, green etc. These are good lines and good prices at www.sailnet.com.

All rope

The hands-down consensus on the Catalina 25 site is to go all rope, for several reasons: No frayed wires (AKA "meathooks") to cut your hands. More comfortable to handle or grab onto for balance, even if there aren't any meathooks to snag you. When an all rope line gets a little wear in it from passing through the sheaves, you can reverse the line and get twice the lifespan. I just bought my 82 H25, and need to change out all the running rigging, but can't yet advise on lengths required. I'm guessing about 80'-- enough to go up and down the approx 30' mast, plus 20' to fair back to the cockpit.
