Main Halyard length

I finally had the new to us 84' Catalina 30 tall rig. I need to replace the main halyard. I am figuring 110' of 3/8" will do. Will this be long enough to make it back to the cockpit. Thanks Mark and Meryl Kerr Lake NC

Hi mark 110' will give you 12 ' extra in the cockpit. I have 120' of 3/8 becouse i like to be able to flip it around top to bottom so the halyard lasts longer .I also like to keep the halyard at the top of the mast and pull it down with a light line when not on board.My old halyard snaped where it sat on the top sheeve , But that took 10 years John

M&M Having the tall rig with the bowsprit, you will find that the main does not go straight to the top of the mast. I have the '88 model and I added a few more feet of line just to be on the safe side if I want to prolong the life of the line by cutting off of the mainsail board shackle end (two feet or so) that tends to harden, rot and weaken over the years. Every year check the condition of that end of the line. I am sure you have been through the replacement exercise for halyards. Congrads on the boat...........keep us posted Bob Lake Lanier, GA
