How does one go about working on the electric panel of a hunter Legend 37. I want to add a new bilge pump and wire it back to my main panel onto one of the spare swirches. How does one work on the switch. It seem to me I must remove the panel to work on it and if so I assume I must disconnect my batteries and unplug the shore power. Is this correct? Thanks in advance, Barrie

turn switch off

Belive if you put the battery switch in the off position, all 12 vdc power to the panel is disconnected. I agree that shore power should also be disconnected, that eliminates 120 vac feeding to the AC breaker on the panel. What year is your Legend 37? I have an 89 and have a bilge pump with a switch on the panel, looks like it is a factory installation.

You need it to work both ways.

Barrie: You need to have your bilge pump work so it works manually by flipping the switch and automatically. The directions should have a wiring diagram for this. You are wise removing the shore power, some of the old panels have AC & DC on the same panel (not to ABCY standards any longer). Also removing the terminals from your batteries is an excellent idea.

Hunter 37 Main Electric Panel

Hi Del, Thankyou for the response. My Hunter Legend 37 is a 1988 model. My wife and I just love it, very fast and stable. Up here we sail into the American San Juan Islands and into the Canadian Gulf Islands which are only 13 miles from our home port. If you look on a map of WA. or B.C. you will see we have hundreds of islands and destinations to sail to. If you have never sailed up in these waters you would give yourself a real treat to do so. These ocean waters and protected by Vancouver Island so there is no pacific swell and with all the islands thus making this one of the great crusing areas in the world. If you have ever seen any of the "Free Willy" whale movies, they were filmed around Friday Harbour located on San Juan island in WA. state. Which areas do you sail your boat in? Check it out. Barrie

Hi Barrie, you just committed the ultimate sin...

You're supposed to say it rains all the time, the sun never shines and sailing conditions are lousy. I crossed the Strait of Georgia yesterday returning from Ganges via Sucia. There may not have been a Pacific swell but they were plenty big. The wind howled, the rain poured and the sun never came out once. Terry
