I have an 89 26D and the mainsail looks like the line on the front of the mainsail (the on that holdes it in the mast) shrank. Any ideas how to fix it other than replacing it? Can I cut the line and add another section then resew it?

If you think it is a problem. I recommend going over to slugs. You will be able to flake your mainsail.

According to legend, when the rope shrinks, you can cut the stitches that hold the rope to the sail. This will allow for better sail shape. Haven't tried it yet but need to on my v21.

Fixed it.

Thank you for your ideas. What I did was cut the line at the bottem of the sail and then streched the sail with a rachet strap. I put some new line from the place that I cut to the end of the old line in the sail. I added 15" of new line. I resewed the sail and the line. It now it works great. Joe

Here is a good post to read...

The rope is supposed to be a little shorter (I read 1 inch shorter for every 4-6 feet of sail). The link is to a post on the Trailer Sailors board and contains the information.
