Does anyone have comments on the Magnetic Fuel Conditioners? I saw them advertised at a recent boat show. I can't recall the actual name but I think it was something X. As usual, when something seems too good to be true it usually isn't. Would appreciate some "real world" comments from users.

They sell lots of them...

Let me give you the chemical engineer view - If you believe that magnetic fields can somehow destroy bateria and algae, go for it. If, however, you want to spend your money on something worthwhile, buy ANYTHING else. In point of fact, these do work, however, not for the reason(s) given by the retailer. They continuously pump fuel through the magnet and fuel filter. What is actually removing contaminants is the filter running continuously; not the magnet. Essentially, they are marketing a ($100) filter and small electric fuel pump.

alge-x

I called them two years ago; asked for a technical person and asked him for an explanation of how it works. Then I told him that I am a scientist and asked him to send me test data that shows that their product works. Turns out they do not have test data to send me. When I asked questions about their explanation, he did not want to talk to me anymore. I would not buy it. Allan

EPA Report & Statement

The linked (thanks Derek Rowell)) EPA Report (65 pages) details the methods and results of testing for emissions with and without the treatment. The noted NO significant improvement of either emissions nor consumption. Some exhaust contaminants (ie:CO & SO2)were actually higher /w the Algae-X. The Report did note some improvement (reduction) in bacterial & microbial contamination - which could be explained (as noted by Don Berger) by mere filtration effect. The EPA Statement (5 pages) summarized the same results. Regards, Gord
