Ive heard rumors that Macgregor is building a new Mac 70 footer, and that a few are already around! How come none of this, pics or otherwise has been brought to this site? Anyone know about this???????

A 70 footer ?????

If MacGregor is sizing up from a 65 to a 70 footer, one begins to wonder...when does Big become Big enough??? What's next...80 ft?? YEPPERS !! I suppose it becomes the issue of who has the "biggest boat" or tallest sail sorta thing.

Doubt it

I've heard from the dealers that actually rubbed shoulders with Roger that building and selling the 65' took too much schmoozing the buyers. Rather than building boats, he didn't like it. But who knows, everyone gets a wild hair.

Still can't find it

I see his custom 70, but I don't see any plans to put it into production. About a powerball win out of my price range anyway. How about including the link?

lifelines

I see he was thoughtful enough to put tall, functional, life or sail saving, full length lifelines on his own boat. I wish those were designed into his smaller ones. I've seen many a spouse refuse to go forward on the Macs because of no protection from going overboard, especially on the foredeck. That crimps a lot of guys' sailing experiences.

RE: Ankle biter lifelines

Nobody should depend on lifelines for keeping them from going overboard. Basically, they are aesthetically shippy looking, and may hel pto keep the foresail on deck, especially if netting is used. But even that's not satisfactory (alone) in rough weather. To improve crew safety, and sense of security, there's nothing quite like a harness and tether to a jackline.
