I have a Mac 22 it has a tiller but the only times I tie a line to it is to get the boat to continue in the same direction or to raise the teller out of my way. So clarification of what you're trying to do would be helpful.
On my boat there is a hole in the rudder to hold it down and a hole on the other side of it to pull it up and then you run the line through the rudder post and then up the tiller, just trying to figure out the best way to do it so it doesn't rub on the back of the tiller at the top of the rudder post
Get a piece of disposable packaging twine and try it both ways and use the way that seems to be likely to cause the least problem.
