New rudder and swing keel
I have replaced the poor quality standard rudder and awing keel on my '95 Mac26 with fabricated sheet metal versions. I used 26ga galvanized steel sheet (heating duct) purchased from local HVAC supply shop. For the rudder stem I used 1-1/2 sq steel tubing and for the keel I used 4" x 2" x 3/16" aluminum. The HVAC shop bent the sheet to form a 45 deg nose angle and then I wrapped the sheet around each stem, pop rivetted to the stem, and secured the 'loose ends' with a folded galv. strip. The whole is wrapped with fiberglass fabric and performs very well and looks pretty good too. Send e-mail address and I'll forward pic and drg
