i have recently purchased a 14+ foot catamaran, markings on it (serial number), sails (with MacGregor Inc logo, and info on them) and previous owner all suggest this boat is a MacGregor, however the internet seems to be vacant of any information on the boat. Can anyone provide some insight as the whether or not MacGregor actually manufactured such a boat. (possible manufacture date is around 4/1975)

Early Venture Catamaran

I had one of those early Venture Catamarans. It had a crossbar between the bows with a roller furling genoa attached to it. Somewhere in my archives, I still have the original brochure and some other literature. If you return some address information, I can send you either a fax or photocopy next week.

15' venture cat

I've just bought one of these 15' beach cats also. Info seems very sparse. I would appreciate a copy of any manual, rigging details, sail plan etc. as I seem to have no shrouds or chainplates..only trapeze wires. Any used sails out there? Colin

Venture 15 catamaran

Not only WAS there a 15-ft Venture Cat, but it was a little ripper as well! The boat had a jib as opposed to the Hobie 14 with which it competed. But the Venture Cat was VERY inexpensive by comparison. When you went to a Hobie 16 with jib the Hobie was completely out of the Venture's price range. (If I recall rightly a Hobie 14 was about $1400 in 1974.) I still have three sets of sails for a Venture 15 cat in this attic!! We were into landsailing in the '70s and acquired the jibs for use on our sailcars, but I only ever used one and the other cars used sails from a Skipper 14 (a British day boat). Venture 14 Brochure

I owned a Venture 14 in 1973-4 and still have the original brochure as well as some old news letters. I have scanned the brochure for some other postings and would be glad to e-mail the document to you if I have an address. Good sailing! Steve
