Recently purchased a Ben 393 (2003) and not exactly clear on use of the Macerator. Is this supposed to be used as the primary flush mechanism for solid waste ? In other words instead of using the hand pump are you supposed to just press the M button both for flushing and refilling the toilet ? Tks

I have a 311, mine as well the prior boat I had works in the following way. The macerator is used to pump the contents of the holding tank overboard (when legal). For either solid or liquid waste the head is flushed in the same manner, flushing pumps the waste into the tank or directly overboard if your boat is equipped with a Y valve and that valve is in the position for direct discharge.

Many thanks. Just to confirm therefore, if waste is being discharged directly overboard then the mascerator is not employed, correct ?

Yes, unless or course someone has plumbed your head in an unconventional manner.

"the macerator is used to pump the contents of the holding tank overboard"? Please explain that. I thought you can only empty the holding tank by pumping it out.

The macerate is what you use to empty th holding tank overboard.

That is the only time you need it on your Beneteau of it is the same as mine.

When pumping out onshore, the shore until does all the sucking of the waste. Macerate or manual pump in the head is not used.
