Hi All,

Most of us are familiar with the Jabsco macerator pump. Works great right up to the time the bolts decay and it starts leaking into the bilge. So I am hoping to replace it with the SeaLand SaniPump discharge pump...

I am planning on building a small platform to attach it to, which will be secured next to the waste tank as well as a little higher than the discharge hose to encourage any waste not evacuated to return into the tank and not sit inside the pump system. This height should also encourage any waste to make its way towards the macerator thru hull.
Since this pump is used 'on top' of the SeaLand waste tank systems I must assume that it will work efficiently in this configuration as well.

So my questions are...
Has anyone replaced their Jabsco with a different macerator pump?
Which one and are you happy with the performance?
Are there any pitfalls I am missing?

as usual, thanks for the help.

I've never owned a macerator pump but I have owned the SeaLand electric diaphragm pump. You'll love it! Mine was 11 years old when I sold the boat and still working fine. I don't see any problems with your installation plan...appears very well thought out.

I just replaced my 4th Jabsco macerator in 8 years. They have replaced the brass bolts with stainless so they will hopefully last longer.

have rebuilt my JABSCO 2X in 11 years. It empties a full waste tank in about 5 mins. I don't understand what people are doing to cause their pumps to go bad so often. I buy my SS replacement rods and new acorn nuts from Ace hardware and cut them to the right size. Cost is about $4.

I replaced the failed macerator in our '08 h36 with the same (jabsco). But instead of again mounting it horizontal next to the base of the holding tank, where it always filled with tank content, it's now mounted just above the tank with the inlet pointed down so content will drain out after use. Peggy and Mainsail pointed me in this direction. That pump can be mounted up to 4ft above tank outlet. I also put a 1.5" pvc ball valve between the tank outlet and the macerator to help keep content out of the macerator when the tank is full. I did not know about the sealand diaphragm pump otherwise I would have gone that route.
