1989 hunter 30.
will a basic jabsco macerator 12v pump have enough power to use ( draw up from the tank) from the deck bung. there is no room to permanently install below from what i can see.
from the deck level I can pump into a container for disposal
cheers

the specs on the pump should state the rated head....that is, how far a vertical climb
the pump can manage while still meeting the GPH spec of the pump

such as 30 gph at 6ft head

Hmm????????

I am guessing not because the macerator is not really a pressure suction pump it is fed out the bottom of the holding tank and just grinds up the holding tank fluid that flows from that hose on the bottom of the holding tank and out of a thruhull out the bottom of the boat.
You need a real good suction type pump that can pull the fluid up about 2 or 3 feet at least into a hose and than tank,I have used real good pump out system at marina's and pump out boats and maybe you can get a portable on wheels to due what you want but doesn't need to be as strong as one as at a marina.
I have heard of a group of boaters all chipping in for a portable unit

jabsco and johnson make self priming macerator pumps, I have one pulling up about five feet from the holding tank to the through hull.

my holding tank is a glassed over integral tank in the keel under the engine so from the bottom of the tank it's about a five foot climb to the pump and below the water throug hull.

works fine.

Stop guesssing...read the specs for a macerator pump

Jabsco macerator instructions

If you do, you'll see that it's "self priming to 5ft and will empty a typical 30 gallon (115 Liter) holding tank in less than 3 minutes. So it'll lift the tank contents high enough to empty the tank.

But there's a bit more to this than you may have considered. Yes...you can turn your macerator into a "poop shooter" (you'd definitely want to make sure that side of the boat is always to leeward while "shooting!")...and that IS one way to empty the tank. But assuming that you'll want to catch it in a container to dispose of ashore, have you given any thought to how you're gonna go about connecting a hose to the deck fitting? How long to make the hose?" How big a container you'd be able to manage (waste and water weigh 8.333 lbs/gallon, so the contents of a full 15 gallon tank weigh 125 lbs!)

Methinks that you'll be a lot better off installing a thru-hull that you can connect a hose to dump the tank...'cuz what you want to do is likely to cause you a LOT more problems than it'll solve!

Or better yet, replace your toilet and tank with a self-contained system that'll hold twice as many flushes as your existing system and be portable enough to carry off the boat!

Hiee,

I just bought one for my boat and they will lift 4 feet according to the instructions that came with it. I will be plumbing mine in for sea pump out but have also planned that if need be a bucket could also be placed under the thruhull at home and the contents from our MSD pumped out that way. Our boat is on a trailer btw. There is a portable pumpout that you might have a look at. It is a sucktion arrangement I think and works like a typical dockside pump out, and much cheaper then the route you are thinking of.
