I am modifying the main sail so I can operate it right from the cockpit which requires to install slugs on the mainsail. Looking at the mast specification the groove is 0.300" and the opening is 0.210"

I was wondering if anyone installed them already on Mac 26M and what size and quantity was used?

I also came across the screw on types that dose not require grommet.

What you guys think?

I do this procedure occasionally for all kinds of bolt roped mains. I usually install about a dozen slugs on a Mac 26. Closer at the head than the tack in spacing. Bolt roping starts out OK, but eventually starts to require lube, then gets stuck over time.

The screw on slugs are great, but you might want to add some kind of re-inforcement patch to spread the load. If you are having this done by someone who sews, short pieces of poly webbing that are sewn double creating a loop that is run through the slug, and sandwiched on the sail, is a fast, cheap and strong way to attach them.

I would not use either product. The slug is the wrong shape, and that type of retainer requires a spur grommett. Keep looking......

Both are Aquabatten parts, maybe you can find them somewhere else cheaper. I have an account with these people (Fisheries Supply) they have really good sailboat parts.

Kind of confused now. According to Macgregor mast drawing the diameter of the groove is 0.300 inch which comes to 7.62 mm but (5/16) inch = 7.94 millimeters. I am assuming the mast on 26S and 26D is the same on 26M. If that's the case what size did you guys used?

Since the M has the rotating mast, I don't know if the slot is the same. I'd give BWY a call.

I like the technique in the very last movie at the bottom. I charge buck-a-grommett for i nstallation on sails. If you use grommetts, use spur type grommets only. I have done a few mainsails with the flat webbing technique- fast and cheap.
