Mac 25 winch

I have just purchased a Mac 25 and was wondering if the keel winch should have a ratchet.My winch handle runs free and I have to lash it down when I launch to stop it spinning wildly.

the winch onboard my Mac 25 has no ratchet. It stays put no matter where you position the keel. This is due to the winch having a brake in it. The brake action is totally automatic and transparent to the user. I suspect that your winch, if it is original, has the brake but has become oil fouled. Maybe someone serviced the winch and unknowingly oiled the wrong parts.

My keel winch is missing. Do you know where I can get a photo and a replacement or resonable simily?How are they set up and how much cable is needed

Thanks for the info ClownPilot I will strip out my winch and check if it is repairable and if not I will follow Nevada City Bob's link and purchase a new one.
