Hi All, I was wondering what the interior headroom was on this boat, with the pop-top down. I like the design for the types of sailing we have around here (Western Washington lakes and the Puget Sound), and was thinking of buying one. Thanks! Mike Sharp

Hi Mike, The head room in the Mac 25 is about 4'4" with the pop top down. You can get around inside but it is not overly comfortable. I have owned a Mac25 for 4 years now, and the interior headroom has not been a big issue. We sail with the pop top up most of the time (in good weather). The Mac 25 is affordable, it is trailerable, I wouldn't hesitate recommending it!! Just get out there and sail!! John Grant Newmarket, Ontario

Headroom

Mike Sharp: You are looking at the right sailboat! I just bought a Venture/MacGregor V224 that is almost identical in size to a Mac 25. You won't be sailing much from inside the cabin anyway. Just make certain that you spend time & find the "right boat". I invested over two years researching sailboats and trying to locate the best one. My job allows me to travel all over the West and as luck would have it, I found the perfect sailboat for me...just 15 miles from where I live on Whidbey Island. So, keep your eyes open and you will find the best one. The Mac 25 is a great sailboat! Cap'n Karl

Great for Short Folk

Hi John, I believe the sales brochure listed head room as 4' 11", but that depends on where you are in the cabin. I'm 6' so I have to crouch over pretty far and using the head presents somewhat of a challenge, but I didn't buy the boat to spend a whole lot of time in the cabin! My wife and I have slept on the boat twice in the rear berth, and it's not bad, though we plan to add a memory foam mattress to make it a little more comfortable. I think if you look around, you will find you can have a Mac 25 for around the same price or less than many 25 to 30 year old Catalina 22's. Personally, I think it is the most under-valued boat on the trailer-sailor market. The main things relevant to buying one is make sure sails, engine, rigging, and hull are in good shape, and trailer is serviceable. Everything else is just a plus.

Ooops

Hi Bob, should have said dinette berth that's the rear berth to me, didn't think anyone would think of sleeping under the cockpit...only if I hollered at my wife, no that would result in being keel-hauled!

hey cap'n karl

i too bought a v224, april of this year. i've got #103 on my sail which i am assuming is the hull number since i have not been able to find an actual hull number anywhere. what are your thoughts on the year of my boat? this sailing thing is all new to me but it is fun and i am sure would be even more fun if the wind would blow a bit more here on Okanagan Lake.

Venture HID

Gord: Some background information about Venture/MacGregor sailboats: V 24 produced from 1969 through 1971. I do not believe these had pop-tops. I also believe these had HID designation: "E" V 2-24 produced from 1971 through 1974. These had pop-tops. I read somwhere that in 1973 the pop-top became a standard feature on the V2-24, but my memory may be de-laminating on me. I have also run across a table of HID numbers for Venture/MacGregor on the internet but I can't remember where. Your hull number may be pre-1973. For Venture/MacGregors 1973 and newer... Look under the cockpit on the upper starboard side of the transom. This is on the fiberglass bulkhead (wall) that holds the flotation foam. It may take some acrobatics to find this but it should be there. Good luck and Happy Sails... Cap'n Karl

Do I know Cap'n Karl?

Sorry to use this space off the purpose, but I have to ask. Cap'n Karl wouldn't happen to be USAF retired? Perhaps with a degree from TCU? Back on track...I bought a 1980 Mac 25 earlier this summer and am enjoying it very much. I share the sentiments of most who have replied. Headroom with the top down runs 4'4" to 4'10" depending on location. It is cramped, but not overly so. My wife and I have spent several overnights aboard and find the balance of compact/roomy to be quite reasonable. Matthew

TCU?

Matthew Keith: Do you live on/near the Illinois River in northeastern Oklahoma? Sorry, I'm not that guy! Went to a lot of Tulsa vs TCU football games though. Cap'n Karl Whidbey Island, WA
