My Perkins Perma M30 had water in the oil. I was told I needed to replace the head gasket, which is why I am posting this.
In the removal of the damaged impeller, by force, and without the puller, the water pump began leaking at the rear, as it is designed to do.
It did not seem plausible that this water leak could actually get into the lower end of the motor, but it was, causing the oil level to increase by the amount of water going into the motor's crankcase.
To better determine if it was in fact the head gasket or the water pump, we opened the closed water cooling system and reved the motor, and saw turbulence, which appeared as bubbles, leading us to believe it was the head gasket.
I was still not convinced, since the closed water system level had not decreased in level.
Replacing the water pump stopped the water intrusion into the crankcase!
I searched the internet for water in oil, and M30 water in oil, Perkins Series 100 water in oil, and more, but there was nothing about a water pump allowing water into the crankcase.
I hope this post helps someone else to diagnose their water in oil problems!
