Have a recently acquired M281, with the molded-in interior.

Yanmar has to come out for a rebuild. Can this be done without cutting out any of the interior? It looks as if the interior was built around the engine.

In re interior: Has anyone ever taken out that interior, which to me is (A) ghastly, with all the charm of a porta-john; and, (B) must weigh more than the hull? I want to go to a Concordia-type layout, with settees, and a vee-berth forward, using the quarter berths for sail stowage.

THANKS FOR OPINIONS/ADVICE/INFO

I'm not sure if your 281 is similar to our M28OI, but we have a Universal M20 3-cylinder diesel, which appears to have been installed without cutting anything. If you look around and measure carefully, you'll probably find that you can remove the engine by unbolting all of the auxiliary stuff (alternator, exhaust header, etc.) prior to sliding it out of the engine compartment.
Can't help you with the carpentrt stuff!
