I have read posts here that the universal m-25 is Kabota based. The m25-xpb is of course an entirely different engine. Is it also based on a Kabota?

Yes, Larry, it is. If you check out the C310 forum, you'll find a recent post naming the Kubota block that is used.

Thank you Stu. The posts mainly talk about the m-25 which is very different from the m25-xpb. Is the m25-XPB also a different engine from the m25-xp? My understanding is that it is.

Yes, Larry, the M25XPB is a different engine than an M25 or an M25XP. The B engine has the raw water pump under the alternator on the port side.

Thanks again Stu, I think I need to join the Catalina owners club. You're the man.
For all interested, the M25-XPB (and xpc, but not xpa) it is the Kubota D-1005.

Look for a diesel injection shop in your area. I had the pump on my two cylinder Universal rebuilt for $200, and tested the nozzles for $40 each. Three cylinder would be a bit more. They said they replaced the springs in my pump too. The local Kubota shop referred me to them, the Kubota guys don't work on the pumps themselves.
