Has anyone had problems with premature wear of the belt on their M25xpb? Is so what was your solution if you found one?

#1 Check alignment & tension

#2 Check for pulley rust, should be no rust on any of the pulleys

#3 How big an alt?

#4 How big is the bank? Type? Flooded, GEL, AGM?

#5 Check alternator pulley width. Many times aftermarket alts have 1/2" pulleys and you ideally need a 3/8"

about eight years ago when my boat was new to me but thirteen years old, the main belt broke so i always carry a spare one now. guess that any part that relies on friction to do its job will always be subject to wear, but i have no idea what premature might mean.

About 6 seasons ago I did Maine Sail Leece Neville 90amp alternator upgrade with smart reg. After that I had a hard time keeping the right tension. I used the ramp up mode on the regulator and still had a squealing belt after a few days on the hook. Lot of belt dust too. I ended up, out of frustration, doing a serpentine upgrade. I haven't re-tension the belt since. If you plan on keeping your boat and can afford it I'd recommend it. One of the best upgrades I've done to my boat.

As I posted here recently, I have the same problem. The alt pulley is about 1/8 inch tilted aft on the outside edge compared with a straight line off the circulating pulley.
Have not yet found a way to correct this. My engine area is looking like a coal dust bin.
