The Luff Track System was previously mentioned as an option to make the mainsail handle easier. Much has been said on this website about difficulty in raising a full batten sail on a prebend mast. The slides in our 29.5 /Full Batten/Full Roach can be sticky but are not impossible. I have contemplated luff tracks, battslide, bat cars etc etc but $1000 (++) seems real expensive (Especially when compared to some silicone spray, making sure all lines are loose, you're head straight upwind, and taking your time) Do these modifications REALLY work that much better for raising the sail? Do they improve the sailing performance at all?

Strong track Tide's marine

I put the Strong Track by Tide's marine on my H380 in 2000... best investment ever made. Easy installation, great product. Sail goes up sooooo easy and when you release the mail halyard lookout below :) check em out on the net, have you local yard buy it for you to save about 25% and never pull hard again. If I had it to do over again would I? You bet, without any hesitation at all. Well worth the bucks! Good Luck, Bob Knott H380

Tides Track System

Hi Andy, welcome to the Doyle Sailmakers Forum. The Tides Strong Track System, is the most innovative and cost effective product to enter the sailing industry. It is the K.I.S.S. principle exemplified. It virtually eliminates any friction of the sail going up or down. And it is maintenance free, no bearings to wear out or lubricate. We sell these system every day. They are extremely reliable. They can be purchased through sailmakers and riggers. The sail must be converted to the custom Tides Luff Hardware. The Track itself can be installed by you, limiting any extra costs for installation. At our Loft for example, we can provide you with the System including the conversion of the sail for around $900. plus applicable tax and shipping. There is a Measurement form and measurement template discs to insure a proper fit. The Measurements are easy to take. We send these to customers all over the country with great success.

I put the Strong Track System on my 29.5

It was the best improvement I've made. My concern wasn't the sail going up, it was the sail coming down especially because I often reef too late. It works well and does what it says it'll do.

Do you drop the mast?

Do you have to drop the mast to install Tides Track or Strong Strong

No Dropping of mast

Hi Again Andy, No, you do not need to drop the mast. That is one of the great features about the Tides System, it can be owner installed from the deck. The Slide gate opening must be widened, but the track comes coiled up, ready to slide right up the back of the mast into the existing track or groove on the mast. There is locking clamps at the bottom to secure the track, so no drilling into the mast or trips aloft are necessary. The track is a hi-density, UHMW UV stabilized Plastic. The track is custom machined to fit whatever mast profile your boat has.
