Just checked the nat'l. hurricane center website. Looks like Felix is just about dead and gone in Honduras. Sustained winds now down to 30. Maybe we are going to have another good year, hurricane wise. One more month of prime hurricane season left. And the good sailing season starts soon. I am more than ready for some cooler nights, some fresher breezes, and meeting new friends.

I'm with you, Nice N Easy

Maybe I'm just getting old (well, I guess it's not a big maybe), but this summer in central Florida seems to be unusually and ghastly hot. Don't know that the storm tracks of the last 2 monster hurricanes are historically unusual, but at least in recent years it's odd for storms not to make a significant turn to the north at some point.

One disadvantage of southern sailing

We may not sail all year, but it is pretty rare for us up here to find out boat up on the marina parking lot when we had left it in the slip.

I am glad it is gone. I check the nhc website every morning. (Just before I logon to here.) If I see a storm starting I get nervous. This past weekend, I could not help myself but to look at the track about every 8 hours. N&E, your nerves must be on end. I hope our year turns out like last year. Maybe we will cross paths soon. I heard that Landry's opened at the West End where Joe's Crab shack used to be. We are thinking of sailing over there one weekend and spending the night. Also heard the marina is now clear and excepting transients. Any confirmation? Want to go?

Chuck

Chuck, my nerves aren't too bad. I live in Eden Isles, on one of the canals. We are pretty well protected back in here. The spoil from the canals was used to raise the ground level to build houses on. My boat survived Katrina anchored in the middle of the canal, with basically no damage. Wish I could say the same for the house. I haven't been over in the west end for a while. Last time I was there, ( last Dec.) it was a total mess, and so much junk in the water I was afraid to go in there. Glad to hear it is coming back. Getting about to be sailing time again. And now I have these two projects going. Was doing the interior of the new ( to me ) S37. Had the headliner and floor out, ready to replace, and of course the old S2 listed with Bay Marine. Then the fire in the S2. So now I am trying to get the smoke and fire damage repaired in the S2. Too many projects. Soon as it cools off a little maybe I can get something done. Just too hot now for an old man to spend much time inside a boat. A couple of hours and I am melted to nothing. Bye the way, to you know John and Rachel Ericht. They are slipped at Marina Del Ray.
