Hi all,

After 5 years of trying we finally crossed the Gulf Stream and are now in Lucaya. We did it overnight so we didn't have to look at the waves. Could one of you boaters up north send me some ice for my rum buckets?

This ice is coming your way, but it will be melted by the time it gets there. I think I'm a little envious, will have to make do with Google maps for now...

Got up early for the parade. :banghead:Folks here just smile when I talk about Ground Hog Day. I don't think they know what it is or why it creates so much havoc. Anyhow, if this is winter, here's to six more weeks.

Congrats. How was the crossing?
We crossed with 1-2 foot seas at 4 seconds with wind about 5-10 from either N or SSE, so our boat handled it well. At dawn we got 10-15 on the nose and it was more spray than headway. Still pretty good for first time across.

You had winds out of the N for at least a portion of the trip? And the seas didn't stack up?

It was N starting out so we sailed S to Lat 26. 30' two miles offshore. That's where our speed dropped 2kts so we turned left to 110*. The wind went light from SSE and sometimes from NNE. In two hours we were set 5 miles north so I adjusted to 120*. In the moonlight it looked choppy but we could see the light on the horizon from Freeport so we didn't care.

Air Chair ... it comes with a sling to hold your bottle as well. Our chair comes out mainly for fireworks night when the wakes calm down. It is a little too bouncy if there is even a little action on the water. But at the right time, it's the best seat in the house! We hang it from the jib halyard with a carabineer to slide up and down the forestay and stand the chair off the mast. The hook is about 5' overhead. If you have a furled headsail, that adds complication.

So, you are right there at the Bell Harbour Channel, right? We own a timeshare right on the beach to the right as you enter the Channel, at Taino Beach. We don't get much use from it now that we have moved the boat to St. Croix, since Port Lucaya is so far up north! But the water in there inside the Channel is pretty smooth, except for the launches running back and forth.
