At rardiH36 - Great advice on the SailKote and how to properly adjust the topping lift/main sheet when raising the mainsail.

sail slide lubricant My 2c

I do not have a fancy innovative rig like Roger`s What Ive been doing is using track ease on
both the track and slides I just put the snorkel on the track and keep spraying as the sail goes up. Has worked fine for me for the last 50 years.

2 Lubricating winches. I take the winches apart and clean all the parts, races, drum, pawls etc: with lacquer thinner Next I put a thin coat of high quality synthetic grease on everything.
Ive never had a seized up or a winch that slipped.

On my cabin top my boat still has the original Barients. All brass and metal inside, including the main roller bearing assembly. Lacquer thinner will dissolve the previous grease on these without any harm.

However, my primary winches are ~2006 model year Harkens. While their main roller bearings themselves are metal, the assembly they are in is plastic/nylon. And I seem to recall that some other parts such as spacers are also nylon/plastic. Modern plastics seem to be impervious to most everything. But to be on the cautious side, probably lacquer thinner, acetone, xylene, etc should be avoided for winches with plastic parts?

I took a piece of luff tape and duck taped some green scotch brite around it. Squeeze it down and it'll fit in the track. halyard and downhaul up and down. I just had my mast down and cleaned the track out real well with a slug and some emory wrapped around it then the scotch brite method after that. If you don't mind some chair time, it would work. I would go after all the "dirt" first....
