Suggestions on what lube to use and where to apply the lube on a Hood Roller Furler. Just spalshed from the winter and the furler is very hard to furl??

lube for Hood Roller Furler

If you have the owners manual for the unit there should be annual maintenance instructions on where to lube your Hood unit.
We have a relatively new Furlex unit that came with a tube of 'special' grease for lubing the fittings and the manual tells you which parts need it. That said, I would think that something like this would do the job a little better then Vaseline: http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|311|296536|314204&id=851293
If you can't find the manual for your Hood RF unit like I did online for our Selden Furlex system then just lube the obvious moving parts and bearings. It is likely that the instructions for lubing a Hood furler are similar to Harken and other brands if you can find their owners manuals and can't find anything on Hood.
Also, make sure you used the right halyard to raise the jib and check for halyard wrap around the top of the furler as this condition is not good. Break out your binoculars and check the top of the mast carefully.

Fresh water flush, a lot of water so the salts, grim and dirt leaves the bearings. No lubricant required.
Hood says at the end of the season, remove the head and soak in soapy fresh water....thats all that is needed. I also thoroughly rinse the head unit each time when I get back from sailing as the salt build-up can be hell on the unit
