New Hunter 36 has small lpg compartment only holds the 4.25lb/1gal cylinder by Worthington. Boat less than 6weeks old and LPG cylinder rusting away. Does anyone know who makes aluminum sized tank? Has this issued been discussed? I believe that either make the compartment bigger to accomodate a larger aluminum tank or Hunter should get a supplier that can manufacture these small tanks out of aluminum. Steel and salt water do not mix very well. I hope I am not over reacting, but after spending $ on a new boat... well you get the point. Then again, if this is all I can come up with to complain, I should be thankful. Any comments appreciated. Abe and yes I searched the archives, and internet.

Fred, thats the problem I can't get aluminum

only thing that fits in that compartment is a 4.25lb tank-unless anyone knows where to get aluminum tanks of that size.

I know Worthington makes many small tanks of

aluminum. One problem with aluminum is that for the same capacity tank, the aluminum tank is dimensionally larger. A couple of weeks ago, Gord May posted the ABYC propane standards. Whew. My boat and most others, can never use large tanks under those guidelines. The compartment is suppose to open without the use of tools and do so without having to open other closed/secured panels. Impossible on my boat.

Rustoleum

I know that it's high maintenance, but you can, at least, paint the tank with rustoleum. That will help ward off (or slow down) the rust and give you more protection.

Check out Seaward.

Check out Seaward Products. They have some odd size tanks that may fit. http://www.seawardproducts.com/gtanks.htm

caulking & paint

Have the same tank in my Seward LPG locker. I painted the bottome 1/4 of the tank with Rustoleum, multiple coats. Then I put on a bead of 4200 caulking and then a piece of clear vinyl tubing that I split. The 4200 holds the tubing in place and keeps the paint from getting chipped. After 4 years it is not rusted except for a few scratched places. Just had to buy a new tank with the new valve on it and painted it up before using. By the way Seward has made a new top for their small locker to fit the new tanks with the new valves. If any one finds an aluminum tank that fits the small locker please post it.

We talked about those valves last year.

I have three horizontal tanks. (two in my camper) Luckily they have been exempted from the OPD regulation. :( :)
