I have just purchased a Lowrance HDS GPS system and would like to tie it into my Raymarine ST60 Plus Seatalk System to allow it to follow the trails on the GPS. It is NMEA 2000 capable but I am not exactly certain how to go about this marriage.

Does anyone have experience tieing these two together?

Is it as easy as getting the NMEA 2000 cable connection for the Lowrance and tieing it into the back of one of the ST60 Seatalk instruments?

I am interested in this too, except for the ST40 series with the HDS.

I think I may have a grasp on the whole nmea thing, at least the 0183 architecture. The raymarine use a seatalk line between them to transfer data (three wires a positve - red a ground - black and a data line - yellow. The yellow line carries the information you may want to send to your GPS i(f you are not using a depth sounder it might be depth information). On the back of my autopilot there is a NMEA + and - (the autopilot will only receive info through this port) take your transmit + and transmit - and attach to this point. The autopilot will then receive applicable info from the GPS.

Here is my question... for someone that would like to tackle it... the yellow line from the raymarine items which sends data in the nmea 0183 sentence structure, I would connect that to the + receive line for my GPS (if it had info i needed) would I need to connect anything to the - receive line?

Thanks

Jeff

Sorry this is so late but I did get the HDS to communicate with my ST60 (using NMEA 0183) and actually use it to send headings to the AutoPilot. It works great!

Do you remember what you did (how you hooked it up) to make it work? Did you just connect the HDS to the ST60 NMEA In +/- ? And did you connect the NMEA out from the ST60 to the HDS?

Thanks

Jeff
