Bringer down mate
Yes, think about how you will go about lowering the mast before you do it. Have a plan. As it has been said, it is not hard to do. I do it by myself all the time. I would rather have someone there to help though. when I remove the pin connecting my head stay (cable from top of mast to bow) the mast stays in place. My mast is adjusted with a slight forward tilt. Of course, you won't know how yours is till you take it down. You should have two people to do it. Then with both people on the aft side of the mast, lower it keeping the foot of the mast in the tabernacle. Just walk it back. Total weight of the mast is about 45 lbs. Now, don't let it sit on the cabin top when it is down and the foot is still in the tabernacle because of the laveraged force it will put there. One person must now stand over the end of the mast and hold it down while you slide it aft a few inche to release it from the tabernacle. When the mast is down and the foot is still in the tabernacle, the center of the mast is slightly past the stern (aft end) of the boat. My ten year old daughter can eaily hold the foot down while I hold the weight of the mast and move it toward the bow. Once I have it setting up there we rest and then remove the rest of the stays. Don't be afraid of all this. It is not hard at all. Just think of how thing will move and plan it out. Let us know how you do. To put the mast up, you just reverse the process. You have to make sure the as the mast goes up the cable will not kink. If you get a kink in any of the cables, you are done. You must not use them that way. I am a trailer sailer, so I did this about ten times last year. Good luck and happy sailing.Kevin
