Just a quick question, while I have my mast down, on the attachment
point of the upper end of the lower shrouds: They are connected to the
same bracket as the spreaders with a large stainless steel rivet.

My spreader attachment (originally an aluminum rivet) was at one time
replaced with a bolt. Has anyone heard of the shroud rivet failing? I'm
tempted to pop it out and replace it with a high strength stainless
bolt/lock nut combination while I have easy access.

Or am I just being a fuss-pot?

Hi Peter

The original fitting (Hound) was attached using an aluminium rivet. Some
people have change this to an M6 Bolt as they are easier to find than a
long alumium rivet.....

Check the underneath of the hound where the rivet goes through as this
may crack after rough use. I have supplied many of these to Vega owners
during the last few years. New hounds are available and come complete
with two rivets, one to attach to tha mast fitting and one to attache to
the actual spreader tube.

Cheers

-I had a spreader connection fail one time. The alum rivet broke
which I replaced with a bolt temporaraily. I would not use that as a
permanent fix as it might result in breaking the alum fitting. I
replaced it with a alum rod cut to fit and with cotter pins to
secure.
