Lower shroud

Need some more help. The photo shows a slot in the mast just below the spreader that anchors the top end of the lower shroud. It's about 3/4" long and 3/8" wide. There used to be a plastic spacer or insert that surrounded the edge of the slot, but it split and fell out. The end of the stay still fits OK, but it has a tendancy to slip out until the mast gets part way up. What is the item called, and does anyone know where I might be able to order one? I haven't had any luck searching for it. Thanks.
Jon

I don't know about buying that plastic piece, but if you can't find it, just use electrical tape. My 23 does not have those plastic inserts, so I use the tape to hold the shroud to the mast about 3 or 4 inches below the attachment point, just while raising. If black looks too ugly for you, use white.

I'd give Rig-Rite a call and see if they can help..

Another vote for tape, but masking tape falls off more quickly. Otherwise, I'd use a wad of two-part silicone putty. Or gum.

Thanks. We used tape last time. I was more concerned that we were losing some structural integrity.

Jon Mulloy;

I believe you are referring to the T ball style stud that twist sideways going into the mast. It is referred to as TBall swaged stud. You are looking for the rubber T ball plugs. Go to this site"s store and I believe you can order them there. Happy sailing.
Advise year and make of boat.

Dave,
I think that's what I'm looking for. I remember finding one of these on the deck. Thanks for the help. BTW mine is a 1993 23.5 Hunter. Do I need 1 or 2 per side?

Crazy Dave's correct, we have them here. I don't think they're up on the site yet, but we can order them.

Over time I got a bit tired of losing the replacing these little things. Several seasons ago I began shaping replacements using the rubbery artificial corks now used on some wine bottles. Several brands even use black corks. It's a simple pocket knife project to shape, and I haven't lost one yet. Looks fine, and you can probably find a use for the wine too.
