Hello,My lower shroud tangs seem to be pretty elongated, and I assume they need replacement (?): do you guys think?Any idea where I could get them? It seems that selden owns Proctor masts now, and they don't seem to sell parts for the old masts.

Definitely replace those. You should also check the tang retainer pin/bolt as well as the ear flange bores for damage. There must have been lots of tension on the lowers to elongate that hole. Maybe check your rig tension when you re-step the mast.

Not sure where you could source original parts. Try the U.K. Vega club, or have them made at a machine shop. If you do source them, let the rest of us know so we can do the same.

Just a thought, are the holes now oval shaped instead of circular? If so, it might have been from the lowers being too loose allowing the clevis pins to wear on the tangs. Possible if the pins are a harder grade that
the tangs which I would presume is probable. I could be completely wrong here. WaltFrom: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com on behalf of maciek.k.lech@... [AlbinVega] AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com

Looking at the picture, it is obvious there was great stress which actually pulled the hole out of shape. Your local metal guy can make you a new one. Use the old one for a pattern.  With that much stress, I would also check the chain plates (U bolts) very carefully. Also the deck step. Gordon
