More and more I see "Ultra low sulfur diesel" for sale. I have an 80's Universal diesel. If it gets to a point where this is all I can get, what do you add to it for the reliable old girl?

Nothing.

Most fuel stations have already addressed this in their tanks. And many fuel docks have gone to ValveTec which assures one the additives are already added.

If you need or want to, just check the fuel dock, see what they sell and then decide if you want or need to add any additives.

Don't bother to double up if you don't have to.

BTW, I have an 80s Universal, too. :)

Your post suggests that you have been buying non-ULSD fuel. I believe the US began phasing in ULSD in 2006 and that it was illegal to use anything else in our diesel engines after 2010. In any event, I don't think you'll have any problem using it in your 80's Universal. I've used in my '86 Yanmar 2GM20f for years without any noticeable issues and the engine runs like a top. I do use a cetane booster and add a few drops of Startron at fill ups.
