anyone familiar with wiring for Lovett 1200? This pump has three wires, white, black, and green. No way to tell which is plus, minus, or auto.. I checked Lovett wiring diagrams online but none show this color combination??

Any help appreciated. Hate to blow the auto feature by misfiring.

the white is ground, the black should be switched for a manual circuit. the green should be auto if the pump has auto mode built in, otherwise it would hook to a float switch...
if it DOES have a auto mode, understand how it works before connecting the auto wire. it does cause a discharge even when there is no water in the bilge because it senses every few minutes to see if there is water that needs pumping.

its unlikely that pump has an auto mode, but if it does, the manual switch connected to a float switch with a bypass to a manual switch may be the best way to connect it on sailboat.

when connected to a float switch, a timer relay like a beuler BU508TD will allow the pump to stay on for a predetermined amount of time after the float switch is tripped.
this will allow the pump to stay on long enough to pump the water down even after it gets below where the float switch shuts off.... and the pump wont run on and off with the sloshing of the water in the bilge.
hook a light or alarm into the auto circuit so you know when it cycles, and how often so you can look for a problem if it is cycling too often.

the manual switch is necessary to over ride any failures of the auto/floatswitch mode..

Rodd,

All of the Lovett 12V pumps I have seen or worked on had RED, BROWN & WHITE wires. Keep in mind that Lovett made three models of the 1200 a 12V, 24V and a 32V for boats like Hatteras. You may have a 24V or 32V 1200 model pump or one of the Chinese pumps made towards the tail end before they went out of business....

definitely 12v model

thanks for the response Maine. I have had Lovett pumps in all my boats since the mid 1970's.
Many times I had to send them back after they froze in the bilge during winter storage (in- water storage). The last time I sent it in it came back with this new color combination, and even the tag in the wire bundle didn't match the actual colors of these new wires! I'll try over the upcoming weekend, and if no luck I'll switch to a Rule 2000--unless you have a better suggestion?
