Just asking, having the bottom job down on a new boat to me ( Catalina 27), has anyone ever used Seabrook Marine.. Also some thoughts on the type of paint or our brackish water.
Your Thoughts , Thanks Dave,,

Bottom Paint

Dave,
I live in Eden Isles in Slidell. I use Trinidad bottom paint, and have for several years. It works very well in this area, and I always get minimum of three years from it. I am assuming that you leave the boat in the water. If not, then you need to use something else. I have no experience with Seabrooks work, but have been in there, and they seemed knowledgable and business like. If you are going to do it yourself, I can highly recommend Lake Catherine Marine, which is on the channel that runs behind Fr.Pike, over by the hwy. 90 bridge. If I can offer any more info. don't hesitate to ask.

Dave:
I too use Trindad SR and get 2 to 3 years with it. Practical Sailor just did an article on bottom paint, Trinadad placed well but there were others eqally as good. I usually have my boat scrubbed in the water by scuba every so often to keep it clean. I have used Seabrook and they are pretty good but you have to check them as with all boat yards. The owners, Dwight, Jeff and David are very knowledgeable. I don't know how they are with "do it your selfers" since Katrina, before Katrina they allowed and forstered diy After Katrina they changed their policy somewhat. I think they still allow diy but you may be in the back yard.

Trinidad here too. I agree that Seabrook has lots of knowledge, I too did a diy bottom job BK. Nice people there. Another place you can try is Lizard Creek Boatyard in Springfield. Its up the Tickfaw river, to Blood river and on Lizard Creek. The bridge at the Tickfaw river is around 53'. Bob, the boatyard owner allows diy and will work with you as needed. Bob's number, (225) 294.5227

Hey guys,
I also sail on Lake Pontchartrain and keep my boat at MDR in Madisonville. I got a bottom job in Mississippi when I bought my boat last summer. However, I wish to paint the topsides of my boat. I can do the decks as it sits in the marina but I think I'll need to take it out of the water to do the sides and transom. Does anyone know of a trailer rental in the area? I guess I can go to either Lake Catherine Marine or Lizard Creek Boat Works and do it myself at either yard. Any suggestions? Does anyone know if they allow spray painting. If not, I'll just roll and tip with a brush.
I am using an Ameron paint (PPG) called PSX 700 which is an engineered Siloxane for industrial marine use. It has higher gloss than urethane and does not require a primer. Check it out if any of you is looking to repaint. It's pretty expensive at over $100 per gallon but is supposed to stay glossy for up to 25 years.

Nice n Easy, I would like to see your paint job as I read you did it yourself.

Paint Job

Tommy,
Had a puter die on me, and lost all pics, so do not have one available right now. Hopefully have a guy who can recover stuff from the hard drive, so may have one soon. I think if you search the archives, there is a pic of it that I posted up before I put it back in the water. I used a urethane porch and deck enamel, which looked very good on the boat when applied, but isn't really hard enough. I should have listened to others on this board. Probably be doing it again this fall. I don't think you can spray at Lake Catherine Marine, but it is a really good DIY yard. My kind of place, small, a little cluttered, but friendly and knowledgable. Don't try to go in there if the winds have blown a couple feet of water out. I plowed about 5 acres of bottom getting around behind Ft.Pike when I came out. At normal tides there is about seven feet behind the fort.

Thanks for the info

Nice n easy,
thanks for this good information. now i need to decide if it makes more sense to bring it to lake catherine or to lizard creek. if i can stay on the boat lake catherine would probably be the better choice because it would be easier to get there. lizard creek is closer to home (lafayette) so i may end up there.
when you repaint your boat you should consider psx700. it has been an excellent product on offshore platforms and only requires one coat without a primer. you can get it at the ameron warehouse in new orleans.
thanks again,
tommy
