Just bought a Hunter 34' that is equipped with a Apelco Loudhailer Apelco HXL1000. Don't have the manual and broker who sold the boat doesn't know how to use and previous owners is out of the country. Does anybody has one of these and how to use and what is for. Apreciate your help.

Have no Idea

Marcio, I have no idea what it is but thought I would suggest two avenues that might lead you there: 1) do a GOOGLE.COM search and I think you will find some hits that might answer you questions and 2) take a look at EBAY periodically as I find folks sell stuff like this from time to time. Best of luck, Kevin ps: did you go to the manufacturers website and inquire about a manual?

Should work off the radio (VHF)

Check out the vhf and I'll bet you will find a detent setting for the hailer. Don

Usually it's a feature of the radio

Plug in a big speaker, switch the set over to hailer, then use the mic like normal. Is this a spearate unit?

Insure Speaker is Attached Before Using

A loudhailer is like it's name implies, a hailer that is loud. Look around for a horn-type loudspeaker, like a megaphone, and ensure the wires are properly connected to the loudhailer. With the volume at a low setting try keying the mike to see if there is anything coming out of the speaker. The horn is probably above deck somewhere - mast? The loudhailer is best located near the helm but if it is below deck then recommend have someone on the dock to listen and tell you when it works. The loudhailer is very useful for automatic horn signals in fog in lieu of an air horn if it has automatic settings for that. It can also be used for voice but I don't know under what situation one could use it for that purpose. If it's located at the helm be sure to check the magnetic influence of the unit and the mic on the compass, both in non-use and actuated mode.
