Slickcraft 26 Sailfish
...That is my J24 virginity. In 30 some odd years of sailing I had never sailed on a J24 for whatever reason. So last night a relatively new sailor who owns one wanted to try out one of his spinnakers. Two of us joined him and his regular crew guy who drives only (He's 82). It was maybe 10 knots average. It was a great sail and while we finish mid-pack they are used to being in the rear - so they were happy. I had always heard the J24 is a very uncomfortable boat. Yes, it was light wind but I found it very much more comfortable than my usual ride - A Seafarer 23. The flat deck was easy to cross for tacks and the cockpit seemed ergonomic. Everything is close by and forward of the helm station. We were trimming the jib in by hand - no winch handles which was a pleasure. We could add halyard tension without too much fuss. No back rests? Well if the 82 year old guy doesn't complain ...
