Hi, We recently lost the rudder of my boyfriend's Columbia 28 boat. Does anyone know of a place here in South Florida where we can find a replacement? Any suggestions? Thanks, Gracias, o Brigada!

This guys make great rudders. Price is very reasonable. http://www.idasailor.com/catalog/default.php

I'm not sure what "reasonable"

means for the price of a rudder. IDA sailor will make, for example, a one-off rudder for my H28.5, but due to the rising cost of materials, it would cost around $1,300-$1,400, plus shipping. I doubt they stock rudders for a Columbia 28, but could also make one. BTW, my first cruising boat was a Columbia 28 and it was a great boat! How did you lose the rudder?

Yes, you guy's are right. IdaSailor is only offering transom hung rudders at this point, but Joel may be pursuaded to build one for you. We also offer Foss foam rudders on this site, same price if you go through us or Foss. We like to think of ourselves as our customer's advocate, so you sort of get a double satisfaction guarantee.
