the rudder from my 1980 hunter 27 broke off while sailing 20 knot east wind in lake pontchartain last week. once back in slip i swam boat bottom and observed a clean break at post about six inches below hull. have ordered new rudder from foss foam and will write again once boat is hauled.

The POST broke off? Or the blade broke off the post? I have never heard of the post snapping off and an attribute this only (in the absence of a VERY hard strike) to corrosion. Do give us more of what you know on this!

in the water diagnosis is corrosion caused by electrolysis. will confirm in week or two when boat is hauled.
