I lost my wiring diagram to wire the Garmin 441 so to my new Standard Horizon 2150 with AIS and DSC.

Does anyone have a link or a diagram to connect the two with 4 wires? I can't figure out where my documents went to wire this and I am having a serious brain block on which wires to hook up.

Thanks in advance.

Shoot. Drats! Did you digitize it and ever post it anywhere? Is it cleverly hidden in one of your computer folders? Good luck.

I had a hard copy and actually wrote out. Now I am looking at the wiring diagrams trying to figure it out. Fun times. I have too much on my mind these days and this just isn't sticking.

Any of these help?

I am still trying to figure out which wires from the 2150 should connect to the 441 to get everything to work. Part of my confusion is the difference in labeling. The diagram for the 2150 has + and - for NMEA and Garmin labels things NMEA out and NMEA in. Is the Positive for in and the - for out or vice versa?

I am still having no luck in finding the wiring diagram that I created and I can't figure out the way I had it set up.

According to the Garmin site: Blue = Port 1 out, Brown = Port 1 in, Grey = Port 2 out, Violet = Port 2 in.

Standard Horizon lists 4 wires being: Blue = NMEA GPS Input +, Green = NMES GPS Input -, Grey = NMEA DSC output +, Brown NMEA GPS Output -

Knowing those are the color codes, my wires are run from my GPS to where my VHF will sit.
I just can't figure out what goes with what right now.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Is there a dedicated NMEA ground or is it just linked to the normal ground for the boat? I know that my GPS ground goes to the Ground bus bar in my boat. If that would be the case I would run the Green wire to the ground bus bar.

Why is this so confusing?

I have this exact wiring setup, and associated notes. But they're on the boat. If you can wait till Friday night, I'll check this thread then to see if you've resolved it yet.

Here is the diagram from Standard Horizon. Its been a while since I wired mine. I think I hooked the SH brown wire to the Garmin violet wire so I can display the AIS information on the 441s screen (easier than looking at the tiny screen o the radio and ram mic).

I can definitely wait until Friday night as I won't be back at my boat for a few days. Please let me know because I am confounded right now!

Thanks everyone for help. I wish that companies would make it a little easier to figure out the wiring for these things. Then again it could be a conspiracy to make people call tech support or get a Pro to install.

I will be installing my gx2150 this Spring. I hope since my chartplotter is also a SH that the diagram is easier to follow.

You probably have a diagram on how to install it. It is better than the ones I have for SH to Garmin. They are about as clear as mud.

This isn't all that hard - search google for "Standard Horizon to Garmin", click the second link (or look at it linked several messages back) and follow the colors. Blue to Blue, Brown to Gray, Black to Green

I get the colors. My only question has been Green to Black...Is that a standard ground? Would I run the Green wire to my negative bus bar then?

NO - connect the SH green wire to the Garmin black wire. This is the common line to complete the nmea data circuit, not a power ground

While you are connecting you might as well connect the SH Brown to the Garmin violet so you get AIS display on the chart plotter. You may have to change settings in the Garmin and SH to match baud rate under NMEA settings.

My Garmin Black wire connects to the negative ground bus.

Wouldn't that be an incomplete circuit if the garmin black wire went to the SH Green wire?

What if I patch the Green wire and attach it on top of the Garmin black wire on the Negative Ground bus?

Garmin uses the black as both power negative (ground) and common nmea (-) connection. Tying in to neg buss bar would accomplish same thing if it's closer.
Don't think anyone else does it this way though! Sometimes a little hard to get the head around this connection.
