Minor compared to what I'm seeing on television, but I'm sure my H-450, Marbella is gone. Not much could have been done to save it once the storm headed to New Orleans. I understand, but have not confirmed, that the large Balley's Casino barge shifted 90° in the wind or storm surge and wiped out our entire dock. In fact, I think for the most part the entire gulf coast boating community ceased to exist. But the misery I'm seeing on television is overwhelming. And many of these people lost houses, cars, jobs, and loved ones. Donate to the charity of your choice, these people need your helpl.

I'm donating money and blood

Today the Red Cross is getting a check and blood from my wife and I. It's the one charity I really like and don't feel my efforts are being wasted. As somone who suffered through hurricane Andrew, I know how much help counts. Instead of buying that extra do-dad for our boats (that we most likely don't need) let's take that money and help our neighbors in this time of suffering, because they have nothing. Absolutely nothing left. As sailors who help each other, let's extend our efforts beyond the realm of boating...I'll go first and hope that more of you will follow.

Thanks

for the nudge. Sorry about your boat. I had my sailboat in Florida for years but by the Grace of God, never had any damage. I, too, am in for a donation.

Boats down in New Orleans/Slidell

Mike and I liveaboard our Hunter 34 Jojamela in Oak Harbor marina in Slidell. Many of our friends have lost their boats. Our's is still floating and has serious cosmetic damage but appears to have no structural damage. I've posted many pictures to my website of the damage to Oak Harbor and the apartment complex located there. Just click on the "Hurricane Katrina" link.

Thanks...

Bianca, for posting those pictures. I was on your web site last week and was in awe of the damage that was done. Do you know why your boat survived and others appear to have been highly damaged or sunk? Did you take any extra precautions that would benefit those of us in other parts of hurricane country? Our hearts go out to you folks for a speedy recovery. Intrepid, 1983 H34 #113
