I recently had a Raymarine Radar/Chartplotter RL70 installed. One day the GPS couldn't get fix on our position. Turned it on and off, tried a few things but nothing worked. I had a handheld GPS that did work so I know there was a signal. When I talked to the dealer, he said there is a bug in the system that Raymarine knows about and is working to fix. Anyone else having this problem?

Antenna location or connecting wire?

On a boat we had a while a go, the antenna was installed on the aft stern rail by the seat and people kept putting their hand on it like a handhold. Shut the signal off every time. Also on the same boat, the antenna connection wire between the display and the antenna came loose once as we were headed offshore and we could never gain a signal lock-on. Did you already check your connections?

I Think The Bug In The System

...is the antenna. There have been failures of the antenna that connects with the Seatalk bus to the unit. I was advised to replace it with the NEMA antenna version (by a non-Raymarine tech). Have been away from the boat, so have not had a chance. The affected units, according to Raymarine's On-line Support, have antenna serial numbers between 013XXXX and 093XXXX. The antenna serial number is located on the bottom of the antenna. Again, I do not believe this involves a huge number of units, but enough that they are aware of a problem. Basically, if the unit won't aquire, or drops constantly, it may be the problem. Show your supplier this and have them follow through. Rick D.

Bug's in the software

The bug's in the software. There are updates available. Check out Raymarine. The hardware is great but the software is a bit lacking.

MikeS: On the "GPS Setup" button menu is....

..a soft-key to "Restart GPS" This will make it refresh all satellite stations and brings back the fix when it happens to me on my RL70 system. Only takes a couple of minutes to get back in business. Good luck.

Rick D - You Da Man ! *5

I've been having this problem for a while. Its kind of strange because when I go to the GPS display on the RL70CRC it seems to be recieving signals from Satelites. Can you help point me to the according to correct place on the Raymarine's On-line Support site. I can't find the details BTW its odd that someone said to try and use an NMEA GPS reciever as I did find the that they have also found a rare potential issue with that where they say -- "The scenario necessary to create this bug is rare. In order for this fault to occur, all three of the following conditions must be present: An ST60 Tridata, ST60 Speed, and ST60 Wind are all connected on the SeaTalk network An NMEA GPS (Raystar 120 NMEA or other manufacturer's) is connected to a Raymarine SeaTalk product, which is bridging position data onto the SeaTalk network The ST60 Tridata or Speed display is between software levels v3.02 to v4.0. " "It is also important to note that fault does not occur when the network has a SeaTalk GPS sensor attached, such as the Rayatar 120 SeaTalk." Click link below for Raymarine Tech Note

Different Bug Maybe, Tom S...

... I can't point you to the post on Raymarine's site since it was a reply to my query concerning my signal loss issue, having been pointed there by someone else to begin with. What I can say is that I do lose signal from the minimum satellite fix when it crashes. This does sound different than your false loss condition. I actually lose the fix. Anyhow, good luck. At least this outfit stands by its product! Rick D.

Raymarine software updates - Who? How?

How does one go about having the new software updates installed on Raymarine equipment (RL70CRC, ST60 stuff, ST 5000 AutoPilot, Ray 120 GPS)? I looked around on the Raymarine website and there is a list of authorized service agents. Here in the Chesapeake Bay area, it seems that many of the West Marine stores are authorized service agents. Do I remove the units and take them to WM? Will someone come to my boat and do the updates? Is there a way I can download the updates and install them myself? Are software updates covered by the 2-year warranty? Thanks for this topic. Jack "Friendship" C350, #80

Can't Answer The Last Question, But...

I had all mine done by sending them to Raymarine directly. FWIW, I usually send a pre-paid return with it altho it isn't required. They can do the upgrades at their vendors also, but I think they send them out anyway. So, it's your challenge to get them out and ship them. They supply the upgrade, altho they are not all free. Software updates

On some units, such as those using CF cards you can download the update, write to CF card and install or borrow a card from a dealer and install. Some other units cannot be self installed and you have to have it done by a dealer.

raymarine software updates

call raymarine-they can send you a memory card-like the cmap nt cards you use for charts-with the updated sw.I'm not sure if there will be a charge, but i think they take a deposit and refund it when you return the card.
