I have posted here in the past about a lost fix message on my Ray Marine RN300 GPS. I thought this happened because of losing contact with the satellites. I also received advice about checking electrical leads, etc. This is what I have found. On model 120 GPS antennas manufactured before Sept. 2003 the company has received a large number of complaints. It is my understanding that Ray Marine has issued a recall on these. So, if you have experienced this, then I would suggest that you contact either your boat broker, or Ray Marine. I have attached a picture of the antenna. John Richard s/v Jack's Place

Mounting Position...

From you photo, I can understand why you loose a fix. The antenna is supposed to be mounted where it has a clear access to the horizon, your's has blockage of about 180 degrees. It also should be level, and not at angles which your's also apprears to be. While it may work, it would work a lot better if it could "see". I have seen a few mounted on the stern rail, but I put mine up high on the arch. You might try that and see if it fixes your problem. Steve
