Loss of Vega "Viala"

Hi all

Just received this email from a Vega owner in Scotland. I am sure we all
wish him well.......

Dear Steve,

Sad to report the total loss of my boat Viala all happened last Friday night
27th May. We had a very fierce localised storm here on Cumbrae with winds in
excess of 80mph from the East all too much for the mooring position of Viala
and she was blown onto the rocks and broke up in a very short space of time.
Some things may be salvageable and Noble Marine have engaged Paul Jeffes as
the surveyor in charge of the removal and disposal of the wreck, he can be
contacted on Tel No 01475 689100, Fax 01475 689060, e-mail
paul@... there is some good stuff that you could obtain a very
good price for the association members.

I had great plans for this season including a trip to my ancestors on the
West Coast of Ireland and at the moment am still pretty gutted about the
whole thing, will continue to be member and if the insurance pays out enough
will be looking for another Vega but I fear that this season is now lost to
me.

Will keep in touch.

Kindest Regards, Frank.

Greetings Frank,

Sincere condolences on the lost of Viala. In the two years that we've
had our Vega, Blue Fin, we've come to love her as more than a piece of
plastic however classic. I imagine this must be very gut wrenching.

Peace to you.

Hi All

Further to the tragic loss of Viala I have received a note from the salvage
company which I have pasted below. May be of some use to to Vega owners in
Scotland etc.:

Dear Steve

I got your email from Nick Bowles and I believe you run the website for
Albin Vega owners.
You may also have heard from Frank Corcoran.
Franks albin vega 'Viala' was wrecked recently and we are Marine Surveyors
and are acting on behalf of the insurers to salvage the vessel.
There may be spares that your members may be interested in.
The rig seems not to be damaged.
Would you be interested to post some information?

Regards

Lynda Melvin

Hi Frank,

I guess I'm one of the few (thankfully) people who can say I know
exactly what that felt like. When I saw Vista up on the rocks, the
worst day of my life (so far anyway).

Condolences

Hello Frank,
It was very sad to read the news about "Viala". I'm not
sure if this is the right time or the right thing to do but you
never know and it might help. My Albin Vega is up for sale and she
is ready to sail. She is being sold through a brokerage in The
Netherlands. The website is below. If you are interested or you have
any questions please e-mail martinchaplin@.... The website
is http://www.botenbank.nl/Members/noordschansklundert/7616/view.
The price is negotiable. If you find this inappropriate then please
ignore it, I just thought we might be able to help each other.

Kind regards,

Martin.

Hi again,
Just checked the posting and found the link not correct.
Here it is again.
Further, the ad is in dutch. Daft. So here is a summary;
Mast, rollerfurling, boom, shrouds, and running rigging were
replaced 2001, the rudder, toilet were replaced in 1999. The battery
is 2002 (95AHr). The starter motor was revised in 2001. She has a
7Hp BMW diesel motor that has always been serviced by the jacht
warf. The anti-fouling was repainted in 2005. There are two sails,
main and genua. 4 mooring lines, fenders etc. There is also the
frame work for a sprayhood, I still have the old one but it must be
replaced. Any enquireies welcome.

Kind regards,

Martin
