I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I just found my old Sea Ranger LCN100 Loran C unit. I would like to add to our sailboat as a back up safety unit. On the back of the unit are places for three hook-ups and I don’t remember what they are for and also do not have the parts. I was hoping someone would know or has one and could look at it and inform me. Also if you know where to get the parts that would certainly be helpful.

The one on the left has a cap that says ”CXA” on it. If opened it has two holes to plug something in to. The middle one says the same “CXA” and it has two pins that you plug on to. The third hook-up which is on the right looks like it hooks up to some type of antenna – probably a loran antenna.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a loran receiver and a Garmin 72 GPS. I like to turn them both on when I am on the boat because they rarely agree about anything.

Harry, I am not familliar with that unit but I have an old Raytheon that I use as a back up to the GPS.. Mine has an antenna hook up and a power hook up and a data out as well as a ground lug with a wing nut. I think there are still Loran antennas available. For best reception, it should be 8' long, but there are some 4' ones out there too. It does not need to be mounted high up because the long wave signals are not "line of sight". My guess would be that the male plug is a power inlet .. it should have a + and - marked?? I don't know what CXA would stand for..?? Oh .. another thing.. there must be an "antenna coupler" to connect the antenna to the set.. It would be a pod , usually white plastic and about 2" in diameter and 4" tall.. Co-ax comes out one end and the antenna mounts on the other..was usually mounted on a stern railing.. There are electronics inside so it is not as simple as a mount for the antenna.
