Does anyone know how to repair a loose prop strut on a O'Day 40? The strut goes throught the hull without any signs of bolts and is covered by a large ball of fiberglass inside the boat. Thanks
Had to move fuel tank to access the strut. Belt sanded the top of the fiberglas blob to expose the top of the bronze strut. Was able to see movement as the strut was moved side to side. poured some slow drying epoxy over the top of strut while someone else moved the strut side to side. Then cross drilled the blob and bolted the strut tightly with two 3/8" bronze bolts while the epoxy was still liquid. After everything hardened we wrapped the whole assembly in fiberglas cloth saturated with epoxy. Been good for two years now.
Has the same set up with the nuts surrounded by a big blob of glass, to remove mine I used a impact screwdriver and when I reinstalled I replaced the bolts and used the impact driver to tighten them up.
