I'm very leery about the way the stanchions move around so easily. I see other boats with "solid" feeling stanchions that don't seem to budge an inch! I noticed a water mark from a deck leak down the bulkhead on both sides of the fo'c'sle. The boat is a 1999 model with only 112 hours on the engine. The person who surveyed the boat ( I just purchased it ) says: "That's typical of Beneteaus" Is this true? His solution to the deck leaks: remove stanchions, re-bed and re-seat them but the "movement" is typical. True or false?

I have a First 35S7 '93 model year. Over this past winter, I reseated all my stanchions due to deck leaks in four of them. I extracted all the through deck "stub" bases bolts, cleaned out the residue and used a sealant, not adhesive, to reseat them. Leak problem has been solved. The "wobble" movement seems typical. The stanchion is bolted into the deck "stub" bases bolts. Some slop is to be expected. Unless the stanchions are bolted directly through the deck like the puplit and quarter rails, I expect to have the movement problem as a design flaw.

Same wobble on my 1991 370 too!

seems to be a design flaw. They slide down the sleeve and lock in with an allen head bolt. Good luck with your new boat! Jack Oceanis 370
